When someone mentions the town of Newport it immediately brings images of summer to mind.  I imagine doing things like walking on the Cliffwalk, laying on the beach, or eating ice cream on Thames St.  Now imagine doing these fun Newport activities in the winter…  No.  Just no.  When Melissa and Justin told us they were planning on a winter wedding at Oceancliff it left us with the usual mixed feelings we have about winter weddings.  We normally shoot in the summer so winter weddings feel new and inspiring.  The quality of light is different as well as the colors of the environment.  Plus there is always the possibility of magical snow photos!  The downside?  Winter means cold and if there is one thing we hate at M.Studios it’s being cold.  We are strong ladies who can push through any difficulties but the cold is our most dreaded adversary.  Sometimes beautiful images come at a price so we suffer through silently for our clients and heave a huge sigh of relief when our bride says “I need to warm up for a couple of minutes”  Amen!  Melissa and Justin were worth the frostbite.  These two are the absolute sweetest people you could meet.  Oceancliff was the first venue they toured and nothing compared after that.  It was the perfect setting for their December wedding.  Melissa had high hopes that it might snow on the wedding day.  Her mom told her that if it did snow it was her grandparents way of telling Melissa that they were there with her in spirit.  They passed away in 1997. Melissa’s Nana left her a ring, the ring that Justin would later propose with. There was no snow in the forecast on the wedding day, but as they did the first look, all of a sudden, it started to flurry!  Her parents were watching from the window in their room.  The snow lasted for a minute, but we were able to get photos where you can see the flurries coming down.  Capturing moments like this is one of the most rewarding parts of our job.

Every wedding we photograph holds a special place in our hearts. We can’t really say one wedding or couple are our absolute favorite, however there are some… like today’s, that absolutely blow us away. It’s not just about the location even though Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyard in Little Compton is breathtaking. It’s not about how attractive our couple is even though Anna and Mike are super good looking. It’s not even about the dress or the flowers or the food. It’s simply about the love. Mike and Anna opened their home to us in Vermont when we were up there for their engagement session. That’s when we felt the love. And it spread. The day of the wedding was bright and warm and, well, it was perfect! Mike and Anna were surrounded by family and friends who were as much in love with them as they are with each other. They were married under an arbor that Anna’s father built and Sayles Livingston decorated with the most beautiful florals. The tented reception was flowing with food, wine, music, and dancing. Views of the bay and the sprawling vines provided guests with an experience unique to our little state of Rhode Island. This summer Mike and Anna will welcome a baby boy into this world expanding their love even further and we can’t wait to meet the newest Giorgio!!

Late spring found us at Bittersweet Farm again, a favorite venue of ours. The rain didn’t get our message to stay away but with sunny yellow bridesmaid dresses and touches of yellow throughout Ashley & Rory’s vintage book theme styling – all was sunny indoors! It would seem impossible that all of the books artfully displayed by Sayles Livingston throughout Bittersweet could be from one person’s collection, but they were! They all belonged to our groom, who is not only well read, but a huge Star Wars fan doubly proven by entering the reception to music right from the movie and the stellar Millennium Falcon grooms cake made by Jen at Sin Dessert. (The M’s were very stoked about this cake as well!) The couple’s little boy, Max, served as the ring bearer and this adorable family became one. May the force be with them!
