When someone mentions the town of Newport it immediately brings images of summer to mind.  I imagine doing things like walking on the Cliffwalk, laying on the beach, or eating ice cream on Thames St.  Now imagine doing these fun Newport activities in the winter…  No.  Just no.  When Melissa and Justin told us they were planning on a winter wedding at Oceancliff it left us with the usual mixed feelings we have about winter weddings.  We normally shoot in the summer so winter weddings feel new and inspiring.  The quality of light is different as well as the colors of the environment.  Plus there is always the possibility of magical snow photos!  The downside?  Winter means cold and if there is one thing we hate at M.Studios it’s being cold.  We are strong ladies who can push through any difficulties but the cold is our most dreaded adversary.  Sometimes beautiful images come at a price so we suffer through silently for our clients and heave a huge sigh of relief when our bride says “I need to warm up for a couple of minutes”  Amen!  Melissa and Justin were worth the frostbite.  These two are the absolute sweetest people you could meet.  Oceancliff was the first venue they toured and nothing compared after that.  It was the perfect setting for their December wedding.  Melissa had high hopes that it might snow on the wedding day.  Her mom told her that if it did snow it was her grandparents way of telling Melissa that they were there with her in spirit.  They passed away in 1997. Melissa’s Nana left her a ring, the ring that Justin would later propose with. There was no snow in the forecast on the wedding day, but as they did the first look, all of a sudden, it started to flurry!  Her parents were watching from the window in their room.  The snow lasted for a minute, but we were able to get photos where you can see the flurries coming down.  Capturing moments like this is one of the most rewarding parts of our job.

Kait and Brendan are our people, plain and simple. They hired us via email and we had never met so imagine our surprise when we were walking into the Avett Brothers concert at The Garden and we heard “It’s M.Studios!” We thought we were celebrities, honestly, like we’d be in Us Magazine the following week…Stars! They’re Just Like Us! They go to concerts! While it wasn’t TMZ it was our groom Brendan who recognized us from our social media outlets and wanted to say hi, which is way cooler anyway. We already knew we liked them but now it was straight up love. Another commonality was our combined love for Providence which is beautifully represented in our imagery from their wedding day. Melissa captured a tricky shot of Kait looking through her window at the Renaissance Hotel with the State House visible outside which is not an easy task given it was the middle of the day but she got it!

We spent the day at the Providence Public Library which is so romantic. The marble, woodwork, and the lighting create an atmosphere of love so when you insert a bride and groom magic naturally happens. Kait’s blusher was ah-mazing. Black and white, dramatic images of her holding her bouquet by the widow on the mezzanine transcend time. The color photos invoke a museum-like quality to us, they feel like paintings! We love delivering timeless imagery, no end and no beginning, just a moment in time…

From the books, to the florals, to the little Avett touches throughout, this was a very special day to share with an awesome couple who’s love story is just beginning.

You’re mine and that’s it, forever!

XO

Becca and Jason are living overseas in South Korea so planning a wedding in Rhode Island was no easy feat! Thankfully, Becca’s mother, Nancy, was instrumental in helping them organize and communicate with a wonderful team of vendors who brought their wedding vision to life. It was our first time visiting the South County Museum and we were so impressed with the sprawling grounds and the history surrounding us. The ceremony was held in the ruins of a stable! Becca and Jason incorporated aspects from a variety of religions into their ceremony which had a hippie love-child vibe (minus the love child 🙂

The reception tent was decorated with hundreds of ribbons and thousands of twinkle lights draping from above. Floral wreaths designed by the incomparable Robin Hollow Farm hung down from ribbons giving the tent a serious WOW factor as they found their seats. Becca’s stunning pink updo (yes pink!) echoed the color of the reception decor and added to the whimsical vibe of the celebration. Friends and family enjoyed food and dancing all night while celebrating this fantastic couple! We wish them all the best!
